Reading in Coffee Shops

Hi darlings,

I just wanted to share with you all my pleasant experience today in Costa Coffee. My friend and I decided to meet up to do some reading together and decided to pop in to a coffee shop and spend a few hours there: I’m so glad we did.

I’ve always wanted to go to a coffee shop to sit and read; but I’ve always been reluctant (for some unknown reason). I bought myself a lovely hot chocolate – with marshmallows and cream – and we found ourselves a couple of cosy seats to sit on. We had a catch up for a bit and chatted away, as you do, and then we both indulged ourselves in to our books.

It was such a tranquil and relaxed atmosphere; every so often you could just sit your book down, have a look around and check out the surroundings, and then put your head down and completely engross yourself in your book again. It was lovely.

Reading in public is not something that I tend to do: In saying that, I have started reading on my bus journey to college in the morning, I love it. Sitting in a coffee shop today, reading, made me realise just how incredible reading really is; there can be so much going on around you and yet you’re completely lost in a world of your own. It’s an amazing feeling.

I am definitely going to start checking out new places for me to read and going out my way more often to find somewhere different to sit and just read to my hearts content. I thoroughly enjoyed being in a new environment whilst I buried myself in a book today; I’ll be sure to let you know what places I end up finding myself in.

Do you ever go to coffee shops to read/study? Do you like to read on bus/plane journeys? What do you love about it?

Until next time

  1. I always like to be reading, but I’ve always been too timid to do it in a coffee shop or café or anything. I’ve read on the bus, in the park, at the train station and waiting for appointments and felt really awkward and not been able to enjoy my book properly as I have anxiety and m agoraphobic so I’m jumpy and get hyper aware of my surroundings which stops me getting lost in a book. It’s on the list of things I’d like to do though. I need to learn to be comfortable in my own company!
