Prison Break

For the past 2 weeks, I have been in hibernation, dedicating all of my free time to binge watching Prison Break. I was so late to the party that I decided to just watch every season back to back. I have now watched all 5 seasons and I thought I’d do a write up on my blog about it. Why not, eh?

The IMDB synopsis briefly states: ‘Due to a political conspiracy, an innocent man is sent to death row and his only hope is his brother, who makes it his mission to deliberately get himself sent to the same prison in order to break the both of them out, from the inside’. And yeah, that’s pretty much the moral of the story, but damn there is so much more to it than that!

You become so attached to the characters; you root for the ones you shouldn’t be and you find yourself loving the ones you are supposed to hate. When a series can do that to you: It’s a bloody good one! I could write a whole post on purely the characters in this series because I really felt like I got to know each and every one of them (plus they all have such intriguing back stories too) but I’ll just stick to sharing my thoughts with you on the series as a whole. Perhaps I’ll do another post about the characters at a later date.

Seasons 1 & 2 focus on giving you the backstory as to why Michael Scofield is imprisoned and also why his brother, Lincoln Burrows, is in Foxriver Prison too. It really plays with your mind and makes you question if Burrows really is innocent. It introduces you to a whole range of characters – some of which play an important role in seasons 3, 4 & 5. It’s so interesting to watch the series back-to-back and watch the characters progress and change and their relationships with one another doing the same! It’s all so exciting – eeeeeek! Can you tell I am a massive fan? So, yeah, Seasons 1 & 2 are pretty much all about the escape and Michael’s plans to get his brother out of that hellhole and earning them both their freedom. Michael is extremely intelligent, he has a gift, and with this gift he can manipulate people and work his way out of pretty much anything – I’d definitely befriend Michael Schofield if I was locked up(!)

I’m doing my best not to give any spoilers in this post as it’s such an intense and exciting watch when you have no idea what’s going to happen. So without giving too much away: Seasons 3 & 4 are all about a prison in Panama called Sona. It is a completely different kettle of fish alltogether from Foxriver Prison. It’s every man for themselves. A few of the inmates who made the original escape from Foxriver find themselves in Sona Prison and have to work together to make their way out of this one too – or they’ll never make it. There is a lot of fights, deaths and blood and gore in Prison Break as a whole and I looooooove it. It’s definitely my kind of thing to watch. The ones who make it out of Sona have to embark on another crazy escapade as their loved ones are held captive and the police are all on their case and it all gets so crazy and out of hand (but it makes for GREAT watching).

Season 5 was absolutely out of this world. It was so well thought out and much anticipated from the viewers. It did not disappoint. The characters that were left were perfect for the storyline that they came up with. It is based in a Yemen prison and is in such a hostile part of this world that it really is an eye opener. It has so many twists and exciting plots that you are just hooked and on the edge of your seat the whole time. When you think back to the very beginning, in series 1, and how the story has unfolded – it is so brilliantly put together. I couldn’t recommend watching Prison Break from start to finish enough.

A quick round-up from me: My favourite characters were T-bag, Charles Westmoreland (& his little kitty) and of course Michael Schofield. My favourite season was probably Season 5 because it was the most intense and the much anticipated climax we had all been waiting for. Do I recommend Prison Break? Hell yeah. I’m going to leave a link below for the box-sets if you are dying to get your hands on it after reading this post!

I love this show! My boyfriend and I couldn’t wait for the newest season, and now we’re left wondering when the next one will come out. Great review, though. I would’ve been horrible with spoilers lol.

This does sound like a great series, I’ve heard of it but never watched it. I’m looking for a new series to binge so this is a contender for sure!

There was such a huge hype around Prison Break when it first came out, but I still haven’t got round to watching it! It does sound super intense and gripping, I’m not surprised that you’ve binge watched so many series in such a short time hehe! I’ll have to look this up and see if it’s on Netflix, if so I’ll probably become an addict too!

Ooh I’ve never watched this show, but I’ve heard so many good things!! All of the catching up is what puts me off though, but I may give it a go next time I’m stuck for a new series to watch!

Great post! I love shows where you can get attatched to the characters. I find that with Pretty Little Liars, they’re so vivid and almost real the more you watch so it’s easy to get caught up in their lives. I haven’t watched Prison Break myself but I’ve heard from a friend who watched it that’s it’s really good!

I’ve never watched this because I always get freaked by series that have so many episodes already! Daunting!

Like you, I binged watch 4 seasons in two weeks and don’t regret it at all! I completely agree with everything you’ve said about the show and the characters. The cast and storylines are amazing, Prison Break is one of the best shows I’ve seen! x

I’ve seen all 5 seasons. I binge watched it the whole way through the first time. And now I’m watching it again. It’s so much more than breaking out of prison, so many more stories going on within and amazing characters.
