As you’ve all probably noticed, my blog has undergone a total revamp, what do you think? I’ve got a new theme, a new header, a new font and I’ve went self-hosted.
What made me reshuffle my blog and give it an extreme makeover? Well, quite frankly, I was unmotivated and sick of the sight of it. I was fed up of looking at other people’s blogs, comparing theirs to mine, feeling like mine looked utterly unprofessional. I never started blogging for the aesthetic of having my own site, it was more about the writing for me, it still is. I just felt it needed a new look. Something to inspire me and reignite the passion. Something to get me going. And it has succeeded! I’ve been blogging every Wednesday and Sunday and plan to stick to this schedule for the foreseable; I have also been scheduling tweets and posts in advance so yay for productiveness!
I’m just going to quickly share with you all how I went about changing my blog around, who done it and how much it cost. If this is something that interests you further, and I haven’t covered it, feel free to pop me a message or comment below and I’ll be sure to answer any Qs you may have.
Firstly, my new theme was purchased on Pipdig. Why did I choose to use this site? Purely for their reputation. Whenever I see folk on twitter asking about changing the look of their blog or how to go about doing so – the name I constantly see being recommended is Pipdig. And so I guess I jumped on the bandwagon. I knew they were reliable, trustworthy and skilled so zero problems on that front. Additionally, they do all of the work for you, saving you the hassle (and at no extra cost)! It cost me roughly £40 for my new theme
and then I needed to go self-hosted. The lovely chap at Pipdig told me that in order to use the theme I had chosen – my site had to be self-hosted. I was baffled. I had no idea what that meant. I was told it had its bonus’ and perks so I just bit the bullet and went for it. The kind folks at Pipdig recommended I went with Siteground and so I did just that. This cost me a further £60 (so I can assure you I’ll be investigating the perks of going self-hosted and making the most of it).
The font process was intricate and infuriating but we got there in the end (with the help of a few twitter fellows and my boyfriend). I downloaded my desired font from ‘google fonts’ and then went through a very stressful process applying it but it was worth it in the end. It looks brilliant.
Lastly I got a new header made up for me by the lovely Helina(who charged me the small sum of £5). She also creates media kits, logos etc. so get in touch if you want a new look for your blog too! She managed to create it very quickly for me and was so professional. Thanks gal!
And there we have it – doesn’t sound like much but it does set you back a bit and it is a rather stressful few days but doesn’t my blog look so much more professional and stylish? I’m extremely pleased with it and the fire in my belly is burning again. I’ve been writing non-stop and promoting my work like there’s no tomorrow, dying for everyone to see my new look, and desperate for them to tell me what they think! So, let me know below guys!
