A Christmas of Firsts

I have really leaped out of my comfort zone this year when it comes to Christmas traditions and the like. If you have followed me for a while then you’ll perhaps know that Christmas doesn’t usually phase me. Not over the past few years anyway. I’ve wrote posts previously discussing why I was a bit of a bah-humbug.

However, this year I’ve been bold, braving things that I would not normally. I’ve been getting in to the festive spirit celebrating and exploring things I would normally shy away from. I’m so proud of myself for these little achievements I have made this year and so I thought I’d share some of them with you in this little round-up styled post.

I had my first Christmas Dinner: I won’t say too much on this as I wrote a full blog post on it yesterday. This was my first time ever braving a full-blown-feast for Christmas and as terrifying as it was for me – I enjoyed the experience and I’m proud of myself for trying everything on my plate. This is a real achievement!

This is my first year having non-chocolate advent calendars: This year I’ve got a beauty advent calendar and a fragrant calendar for the run up to Christmas. I know these kind of advent calendars have been the hype for the past few years but I’ve never really been too fussed about them – until I discovered Chemist4U’s range*. It’s so exciting waking up to a little gift each morning, I’m most excited about my fragrance one, the samples are perfect for popping in my bag and the scents are so strong and luxurious. It’s a real treat!

I visited the Christmas Markets for the first time: I cannot believe that I’ve never had a trip to the Christmas Markets. This year I went to Edinburgh, and I had the busiest most wonderful day, I have a full blog post going live all about the activities I got up to and the experiences I had so keep your eyes peeled. My inner child was out in full force and even though the weather was pretty treacherous – I had a magnificent time creating marvellous memories.

(Quirky + unique gift boxes of fun edible biscuits at Biscuiteers* – excellent stocking fillers!)*

I’ve made a point of shopping small as much as possible: I always support small businesses all year round, however at Christmas time I often leave things until last minute, leaving myself in a mad panic and running around the shops grabbing whatever I can. This year I started my shopping early. I’ve tried my very best to support small businesses; including promoting them on my social media platforms. This is a stressful time of the year for all of us, imagine how difficult it must be to run your own business and rely on those funds to help you get by throughout this crazy month, it’s so important that we try and shop local/small when we can as these independent businesses need us.

I’m actually looking forward to Christmas this year: This is highly unusual for me as over the past few years I’ve been a total Debbie-Downer about the festive period. However, my adorable niece Orla is at an age now where she is taking everything in and excited about the world, and because of this I am excited too. I’ve found myself spoiling her this year, I can’t wait to give her all of the gifts I’ve been picking up for her over the past few months, she brings so much joy to everyone and she has reignited my X-mas spirit for sure!

There has been lots of firsts for me this Christmas and I am fully embracing it. Is there anything you’re doing this year for the first time? Let me know below in the comments!

I’m glad your getting in to Christmas spirit I’ve felt the opposite I’m usually so much about Christmas but this year I’ve kinda lost my interest in it, it’s kinda weird but I’m also a little relieved.

So many firsts! I’m not usually a huge Christmas fan so I can totally relate. I went to my first Christmas market this year too. I’ve never had a beauty advent, I told myself I would this year but I just couldn’t choose one!! x
