Deadlines in December

I certainly have the festive fever this winter, I’ve been doing all-sorts of things for the first time, conjuring up what I believe to be Christmas spirit. Over the past few years I’ve been a bit of a Grinch but this year I’m really enjoying all of the festive activities and of course: participating in BLOGMAS.

The only thing putting a dampener on my Christmas spirit (at this moment in time) is deadlines.

Deadlines, deadlines, deadlines.

Second year of university has undisputedly come down on me like a ton of bricks, I thought this year it would be a bit easier, with us being able to drop one of our subjects (which for me was law!) in order for us to focus on our main subjects of expertise which in my case is: Journalism, Creative Writing and English Studies. Still loads, I know right?

I haven’t had a chance to breathe this semester. Thank goodness my social life is virtually non-existent as I would certainly not have the time for socializing and keeping up appearances.

At the moment I am so swamped with deadlines, I have all of these assignments and essays hanging over me, I have managed to submit a few but still I have more to go. I wanted to do blogmas alongside my academic writing so that I can let loose and just enjoy some free-flowing writing (and have a good ol’ rant if I need to).

I have to say I have noticed that since participating in blogmas, and blogging regularly, my stats have been booming! So, a great big juicy thank you to all of you who are reading and commenting, it’s definitely cheering me up and inspiring me to keep going.

I would like to think I have been pretty organised with my assignments due this month. I actually gave myself a deadline before the deadline as I have some things planned for the weekend that everything is due. This has added additional pressure to me, but it’ll be so worth it when I can enjoy my weekend in peace, with no stress and nothing hanging over me. That’s the plan anyway.

Imagine having deadlines in December? It’s an oxymoron. You’re counting down the days until X-mas but you’re not counting them because damn you’re running out of time and you’ve still got a shit ton to get through. Nightmare.

I can’t wait to have everything done, so I can read for pleasure again, so I can sleep without dreaming of renaissance lingo and Shakespeare’s Sonnets. Give me strength. I need a mulled cider and a Christmas Cracker joke. If you’ve got any, hit me, together we will get through this!

Has anyone else got deadlines due this month? Let’s have a moan together!
