21st Birthday: Photo Diary

I have completely and utterly neglected my blog as of late. I’m off to Spain for 2 weeks tomorrow (well, in the early hours of the morning) so I will most likely be neglecting it some more. However, I’ve been celebrating my 21st birthday over the past couple of weeks(!) and I would kick myself if I didn’t share some of my amazing and wonderul moments with you guys. So here’s a very brief photo diary of some of my celebrations over the past 2 weeks… I plan on doing a ‘What I got for my 21st birthday’ post when I return from my holiday. But we’ll see.

Hope you’re all well.

Squat Magic post #3: Do I recommend it?

squatmagic2Oopsies, late again with this post! It just hasn’t been my week at all guys, my laptop broke and I’ve only just got it fixed, so I thought I’d smash out my final round-up post of the Squat Magic machine from New Image and tell you if I think it’s worth the purchase.

Additionally, I just wanted to let you all know I’m doing a giveaway in collaboration with High Street TV and you guys can win your very own Squat Magic machine for your at-home-workouts by following me on twitter & retweeting the giveaway tweet! So good luck guys – winner will be drawn on the 20th of August! Head on over to my twitter and enter now.

My last post about the Squat Magic featured all of the pros & cons, in my opinion, of the product. If you missed that post you can catch up here. I’m going to keep this post short and sweet for you all as I’ve already told you on my blog what the squat magic product actually is, who made it, my thoughts on it all-round so today I just want to tell you guys if I recommend this product or not… and my answer is:

YES.

Yes. Yes. Yes.

squatmagic1

The squat magic is an excellent invention and I think it’s an absoloutley fabulous tool for people who enjoy their at-home-workouts or don’t feel confident to do squats. It’s a great tool for beginners & even more advanced gym-goers! I think it’s a wonderful piece of gym equipment to have lying around in your home as it totally motivates you to move your ass and get stuff done (quite literally). Getting out of your bed or off the sofa to do squats sounds quite strenuous – but when you have an assisted squat machine there for you it makes it a whole lot easier and daunting!

I’m not going to lie to you guys, I prefer going to the gym and lifting weights and stuff when I’m squatting, but I’ve enjoyed testing the Squat Magic and I will use it in future for my at-home-workouts and to help me continue variating my squats at home! You can pick up your very own Squat Magic from High Street TV’s website HERE for £69.99 (or you can enter my giveaway over on Twitter & cross your fingers and hope you win)!

Would you use an assisted Squat Machine? Have you heard of it before?

Until next time

August Advertisers

Hey sweethearts!

I’m excited to introduce you to my August advertisers; I’m super excited about this month (as it’s my 21st birthday, and party, and I’m going on holiday) and it’s an extra special treat to be promoting some amazing bloggers on my very own blog throughout the month. So without further ado:

advertiser july 2

The remarkable Natasha Saunders (& her blog www.mummytoosh.co.uk)

Natasha enjoyed advertising with me so much in July that she decided to advertise with me AGAIN in August (I am absolutely thrilled with this as I thoroughly enjoyed promoting her content throughout this month). Natasha, known online as Mummy Toosh, began writing her blog purely as a hobby but now she finds it to be very therapeutic and writes regularly about her life! It is primarily a personal lifestyle blog where she talks a lot about her life as a whole;  additionally talking about parenting from time to time too! Natasha is a mummy to 4 precious gems and is fuelled by coffee! She is such a lovely lady – you should totally go and connect with her (if you haven’t already)! Mummy Toosh’s latest post is called ‘A holiday in Wales and perfect Tenby’ and is such a breath of fresh air. You can go and have a browse through Natasha’s blog here.

You can find Mummy Toosh on Twitter & Instagram.

advertiser2

The wonderful Llinos Clinnet (& her blog www.thelilaclinnet.com)

Llinos is predominately a lifestyle blogger (with such a sophisticated and aesthetically pleasing layout on her little corner of the internet). If you can’t already tell by her eye-catching blog header: Llinos loves to read, crochet, papercraft and has a little baby guinea pig called Maggie (shout out to Maggie!). I just adore Llinos’ blog. Her latest post is all about films she has watched recently and has some fabulous recommendations – you can go and have a little shimmy at that here.

You should also totally go and follow Llinos on Twitter & Instagram.

(& see some photos of little Maggie!)

advertiser

My good friend and amazing person: Holly Bennett (& her blog www.hollyb83.com)

Again, another returning advertiser, which I am so so pleased about! Holly is mostly a lifestyle blogger who revels in writing about her adventures, days out, fashion, theatre and much more. Her blog is so revitalizing and such an enjoyable read! Her most recent post is a bit of a catch up post which you can read here. She was recently in LAS VEGAS (I know, right?) and shared lots of her adventures and days out with us on her blog so definitely drop by Holly’s blog and give them a wee read!

You can find Holly on Twitter & Instagram.

advertiser4.png

The lovely Kimberly Fairchild (& her blog www.lifeofkimberly.com)

Kimberly is a ‘twenty-something’ year old sweetheart from Kentucky, USA, who writes a lifestyle blog; She also writes frequently about beauty & college. She is a huge lover of Harry Potter, cats, coffee and make up. Her latest post features some of her personal goals and blogging goals for August 2017 – you guys can check that out HERE. I love reading these kind of posts as it always motivates me to get myself sorted and set myself some goals for my blog & my personal life. Kimberly is such a wonderful wee soul and you should totally check out her blog.

You can find Kimberly on Twitter & Instagram.

One big final shout out to my four fabulous advertisers for the month of August: Natasha, Llinos, Holly & Kimberly. I look forward to promoting each and every one of your content and social media platforms throughout the month.

If you are interested in advertising with me at all then you can check out my advertisement page on the blog and pop me an email (charlenemcelhinney@icloud.com) to let me know which bundle you’re after.

Squat Magic update*

Hey sweethearts!

Today I wanted to do that ‘check in’ post that I promised you guys 2 weeks ago when I wrote a post about testing out the new Squat Magic product. I’m sorry I’m late in writing this post; I know so many of you were really eager to hear how I got on with the product. So let’s jump straight in!

IMG_0758[1]

I want to make this post my own, and not bore you all with loads of facts and figures and all that jazz, so I’m going to do a PROS & CONS list of my thoughts on the Squat Magic thus far. Here goes:

CONS

(Starting with the cons guys then finishing on a positive!)

  • My cat doesn’t seem to like it much! (haha)
  • It takes a while to get used to, if like me, you are already a squatter and are used to doing it without any assistance.
  • Changing the resistance level is a little bit complicated (if you’re a total eejit like me and don’t know what the hell you are doing even though you have the instructions right in front of you) so  I had to get my boyfriend to set it up for me.
  • You feel a little bit silly, not going to lie, but you really feel it working! No pain no gain? No shame no gain? I don’t know. It’s like any gym equipment or machinery: It can be intimidating at first but once you get used to it, it’s all good in the hood!

I kind of struggled coming up with cons there because there is nothing blatant that I disliked about this product. Moving swiftly onwards to the…

PROS

  • You can do squats in whatever you feel comfortable in from the comfort of your own home: PJS? Shorts? (that you are too anxious to wear to the gym) or even do it in the nude! (ha) this allows you to workout comfortably without worrying what to wear!
  • It’s pretty straightforward to use, once you get the hang of it.
  • It’s comfortable! The seat is padded and doesn’t cause any discomfort (like riding a bike for a while – ouch!)
  • It’s not too big and it’s not really heavy either so it’s easy to transport if you needed to take it somewhere with you.
  • It motivates you to actually do squats. It can be hard to motivate yourself to do them at home but having a machine that assists you can really motivate you to get them done.
  • It’s effective. You really feel the burn. 10 squats in and I assure you – you’ll feel it.
  • It gives you confidence to try out different squat varients because you have that reassurance and assistance behind you.
  • It comes with loads of informative leaflets that I have found extremely handy.
  • It’s fun. It’s something different.

So yeah, so far so good!!

I wanted to do this check in post today just to let you all know my thoughts on the product so far! I will do one final post on the product in another week or so (I promise not to leave it any longer than that this time)! I’m really enjoying trying out the squat magic and I definitely think it’s a great product for someone who does at home workouts on a regular basis! I think it’s going to be a BIG hit!

This is my peach so far! None of the photos or videos I have used in this post have been edited at all and haven’t had any filters or anything like that done to them. I did add music to the video though, of course, using the Splice video app! I didn’t want you guys hearing my heavy breathing, ha I’m kidding! For me, it’s important, when you are testing out a product – especially fitness related – that we show true results! I do workout on a regular basis and hit the gym 3/4 times a week and have always naturally had a big bootay however I do think the Squat Magic is contributing to my progress. I reiterate my point about variating your squats! I think that’s sooooo important for results!

Anyway, I’m going to zip it now, and love you and leave you! I will be back in a week or so to give you all one final update on the Squat Magic! Let me know your thoughts so far though guys!

Waxing your Lady Garden

Waxing-guide

(SOURCE)

Lately, I’ve been finding my own voice more on my blog and really writing about things that are close to home and personal to me and I have to admit: This is my favourite kind of writing! I’ve not been holding back and I love being open and honest with you guys! If I could share everything with you I would.

Today was bikini wax day! I haven’t had my lady garden waxed in quite a while as I went through an operation on my pelvis in January and decided to revert back to shaving; I didn’t want to irritate the area wherein I had just had an op! Now that I’m all healed and better again I thought I’d get myself back to the salon and get my lady parts sorted! I don’t know about you, ladies, but I feel so much cleaner and confident with a wax! I am in no way, shape or form bashing those who choose not to shave, wax, tweeze, use hair removal cream or whatever and just embrace their natural hair – not at all – each to their own! I ain’t judging anyone here; just sharing my own experiences and thoughts with y’all.

IMG_0724[1]

Moving swiftly onwards, today I went to the salon and decided to keep a little bit of hair, ‘a landing strip’, as opposed to getting rid of the whole lot (which I usally do). I have been embracing my body hair lately and didn’t want to see it all go at once! However, next month when I’m going on holiday, it’s all coming off! I mean business!

There is so many options for you to choose from when going for a wax: It’s like going to the hairdressers for your little flower! There is loads of fancy names for whichever type of wax you’re going for: The bikini wax (which is traditionally just a ‘clean up’ at the sides of where your pubic hair would poke out of your bikini, you girls know what I mean); then there’s The Playbox Wax (which is usually a ‘landing strip’ of hair that they leave on your Shereen Nanjiani – just for the aesthetics, you know?); you can also go for The Hollywood Wax and bare it all – this entails getting in to every nook and cranny and having all of the hair removed! Yep, even the ass. Yep, women have hair there too! Oh and if you’re feeling adventurous you can request a shaped wax in your lady garden! Valentines day? You could get a heart. Loved up? Get your lover’s initials (?!) I’ve heard of people getting arrows pointing downwards or little bows and stuff! I don’t know, I’ve never personally had anything like that, but it is possible to get it done!

Why is waxing seen as a painful and daunting experience? It can be so much fun! Call me crazy but I look forward to going for my wax down below. I always leave feeling like a new woman! I’m not saying I enjoy it, but it’s over quick, and it works wonders for your confidence. Plus, it saves you the hassle of shaving, cutting yourself, cursing and throwing a tantrum, bending over mirrors to make sure you haven’t missed a spot (just me?) so yeah – it isn’t all bad.

If, like me at the beginning, you are worried about getting your pussy out for a stranger – don’t be. These beauticians have seen so many different shapes, sizes and people and really don’t care what you look like – even down there! I used to worry about how hairy I was or if I’d left it too long or I’d worry that they were going to judge me but it’s honestly nothing like that at all. My beautician is the loveliest and most down to earth person you could meet and chats away to me the whole time so I don’t even think about what she’s doing to me! She always reassures me and makes me actually enjoy the experience and I leave feeling so pampered and revitalized!

I’m curious, what do you guys prefer: Waxing, shaving, hair removal cream or just going au naturel? Would you ever share your waxing experiences with people? It shouldn’t be a reserved and ignominious thing – speak out about your hair removal experiences (or lack of them)! It’s all perfectly natural!

Until next time!

Prison Break

landscape-ustv-prison-break

For the past 2 weeks, I have been in hibernation, dedicating all of my free time to binge watching Prison Break. I was so late to the party that I decided to just watch every season back to back. I have now watched all 5 seasons and I thought I’d do a write up on my blog about it. Why not, eh?

b6def6b6edd90c4a5b5165d5832476f6a5cc49c82b6acb37ae5c4029ac525713

The IMDB synopsis briefly states: ‘Due to a political conspiracy, an innocent man is sent to death row and his only hope is his brother, who makes it his mission to deliberately get himself sent to the same prison in order to break the both of them out, from the inside’. And yeah, that’s pretty much the moral of the story, but damn there is so much more to it than that!

You become so attached to the characters; you root for the ones you shouldn’t be and you find yourself loving the ones you are supposed to hate. When a series can do that to you: It’s a bloody good one! I could write a whole post on purely the characters in this series because I really felt like I got to know each and every one of them (plus they all have such intriguing back stories too) but I’ll just stick to sharing my thoughts with you on the series as a whole. Perhaps I’ll do another post about the characters at a later date.

The_Fox_River_Seven

Seasons 1 & 2 focus on giving you the backstory as to why Michael Scofield is imprisoned and also why his brother, Lincoln Burrows, is in Foxriver Prison too. It really plays with your mind and makes you question if Burrows really is innocent. It introduces you to a whole range of characters – some of which play an important role in seasons 3, 4 & 5. It’s so interesting to watch the series back-to-back and watch the characters progress and change and their relationships with one another doing the same! It’s all so exciting – eeeeeek! Can you tell I am a massive fan? So, yeah, Seasons 1 & 2 are pretty much all about the escape and Michael’s plans to get his brother out of that hellhole and earning them both their freedom. Michael is extremely intelligent, he has a gift, and with this gift he can manipulate people and work his way out of pretty much anything – I’d definitely befriend Michael Schofield if I was locked up(!)

prison-break-season-3-sona-889681

I’m doing my best not to give any spoilers in this post as it’s such an intense and exciting watch when you have no idea what’s going to happen. So without giving too much away: Seasons 3 & 4 are all about a prison in Panama called Sona. It is a completely different kettle of fish alltogether from Foxriver Prison. It’s every man for themselves. A few of the inmates who made the original escape from Foxriver find themselves in Sona Prison and have to work together to make their way out of this one too – or they’ll never make it. There is a lot of fights, deaths and blood and gore in Prison Break as a whole and I looooooove it. It’s definitely my kind of thing to watch. The ones who make it out of Sona have to embark on another crazy escapade as their loved ones are held captive and the police are all on their case and it all gets so crazy and out of hand (but it makes for GREAT watching).

prison-break-5x06-michael-scofield

Season 5 was absolutely out of this world. It was so well thought out and much anticipated from the viewers. It did not disappoint. The characters that were left were perfect for the storyline that they came up with. It is based in a Yemen prison and is in such a hostile part of this world that it really is an eye opener. It has so many twists and exciting plots that you are just hooked and on the edge of your seat the whole time. When you think back to the very beginning, in series 1, and how the story has unfolded – it is so brilliantly put together. I couldn’t recommend watching Prison Break from start to finish enough.

ruddy-buch-prison-break

A quick round-up from me: My favourite characters were T-bag, Charles Westmoreland (& his little kitty) and of course Michael Schofield. My favourite season was probably Season 5 because it was the most intense and the much anticipated climax we had all been waiting for. Do I recommend Prison Break? Hell yeah. I’m going to leave a link below for the box-sets if you are dying to get your hands on it after reading this post!

> Prison Break – Complete Season 1-4 (New Packaging) [DVD]

> Prison Break: The Complete Fifth Season [DVD]

Have you ever seen or heard of Prison Break? Is it something you would watch? If you’ve watched it – let me know who your favourite characters are please and which season you enjoyed most!

Until next time,

My first, and last, year at college

IMG_0429[1]

Now that I’ve finished my first (and last) year of college, I thought I would do a blog post all about it. Ideally, I’d like to tell you all about my course and what it entailed; but I’d also like to talk about my actual college experience which consisted of a broken class and some pretty nasty bullying.

Don’t get me wrong, I met a wonderful bunch of people at college whom I’d love to meet up with again in the future and catch up with; but I also met some of the bitchiest and most hostile people that I sincerely hope I never have to see again – ever.

I think what I’ll do with this post is just talk about my overall college experience and I’ll do a separate post in a week or so and tell you all about the actual course, which was absolutely tremendous and a highly rewarding course to be on! I was studying Professional Writing Skills in the Creative Industries at City of Glasgow College in the new super-campus. But I’ll talk more about that at a later date…

So, let’s just dive straight in.

College was nothing like I thought it would be. Nothing like it at all. I expected to have a class wherein we would all help one another out, have nights out, chat to one another, mingle, have an overall nice atmosphere in the class etc… but it wasn’t to be! A couple of us had a few nights out but never more than 3/4 of us. Quite disappointing really but certainly not a problem.

The problem was with 3 specific individuals who weren’t interested in the course one little bit. They ruined my first college experience for me. And I’ll never forget it.

When I left school, I took a gap year. I suffered from severe mental health issues throughout this, and took years to build myself up to applying for college. Anyway, I was hoping to have a good mix of ages throughout my class however I found myself in a class with mostly 17/18 year olds. I’m not much older, 20 going on 21, but not just straight-out-of-school. I befriended many of these 17/18 year olds and they had great attitudes and were eager in learning and balancing a good friendship and social life – that kind of thing. Then there were 3 who just thought they were above everyone else and made sure everyone knew it…made sure I knew it!

I started getting picked on because I lend my I.D to one of the boys in my class who said it was for a friend… he then took it upon himself to give it to another girl in my class who I would never have lend it to. I didn’t even want to give it to him but I felt so pressured. Anyway, when I asked for my I.D back that’s when all the problems arose. This boy, and this girl, never showed up to class. Once in a blue moon they would show face and then leave early to get off their faces on drugs. Sometimes they would even come to class in that state, or come in drunk! Anyway, each to their own. I started getting abuse online from said girl who borrowed my I.D, then the boy who gave her it, THEN another girl in my class (who had been bitching about me getting accepted to University?) jumped on the bandwagon and began mouthing off too… I had 3 of these 17/18 year olds on my case and giving me a hard time so I blocked them. All of them. On everything I could.

I came in to class the next day, none of them were in. Or the next day. Usual from the usual, right? I thought it’d all blow over. I got my I.D back eventually (without even a thank you) and when said girl decided to show her face in class, she stormed in with a skirt half way up her backside and towered over me (I had no idea where to look because I was sitting down and could nearly see the whole shebang) and she began shouting – in front of the whole class AND the lecturer – about how I was this and that, and that I could block her on social media but I couldn’t avoid her in person, and she began making threats… at this point I was totally humiliated as this was happening in front of the whole class and finally the lecturer jumped in and told her to sit down. I don’t know if she was on drugs or what, I could never tell, but it was honestly one of the most hostile situations I’ve ever been in. For the rest of the class I was receiving bitchy comments and dirty looks which made me severely uncomfortable. She got up during class and left. I don’t know where. She never came back. But I was so on edge to leave class that day – to even go home or go to the toilet.

Later I opened up to the lecturer. Told him what was going on. Showed him evidence of the abuse I was getting. They asked if I wanted to take it further and go to the head lecturer and I said yes. I took days off college. Missed assessments because I was too anxious to go in because I had escalated the bullying and decided to speak up about it. Eventually I plucked up the courage to go in and meet with the head of the department and take this further. I’ve been bullied LOADS in life and I really didn’t want this to happen to me again at my first year at college. So I was courageous and I decided to take it further.

I had a meeting, broke my heart out, told them everything I could. Nothing was ever done. I wasn’t kept in the loop or told what was going on. But luckily, one by one, they dropped like flies. I think one got kicked out – the boy. And the other two just didn’t make it. They were too interested in drinking, taking drugs, bitching, arguing and gossiping that they never made it. And I passed every part of the course with flying colours and even bagged myself an A in the Graded Unit. I’m honestly so damn proud of myself.

I ain’t usually one to blow my own trumpet but they put me through hell, and I was so close to giving up, and I thought back to a year ago and how low I was and it made me push myself to prove that my mental health wasn’t holding me back anymore. And it didn’t. It almost did. But I didn’t let it win. I didn’t let them win.

This post has turned in to me just telling you about the bullies and not about my actual college experience so I promise the next post will be all positive vibes and I’ll tell you all about the good things that happened to me throughout my first year at college!

But take it from me – college ain’t like what you see in films! I wasn’t expecting High School Musical but I certainly wasn’t expecting to be bullied from three 17/18 year olds – that’s for sure! I stood my ground and I kept my head down and I achieved what I was there to do.

And they didn’t.

In the end, I had the last laugh.
